GANGADEVIPALLY: The state government on Monday announced a grant of Rs 10 crore for this village which could be used for development activities or infrastructure creation as decided by the residents.Making the announcement after formally launching Grama Jyoti, the village development programme, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao heaped praise on Gangadevipally for its commitment over the past few decades for developing the village and improving the quality of life of its residents.“You have achieved a lot. I salute you for that. Now it is time for this model village to take the next step. You must become self-sufficient,” Chandrasekhar Rao said. The CM who went around the village before addressing a grama sabha, said “we will give you what you need and it is for you to work together and become self-reliant,” he said.Chandrasekhar Rao made a strong pitch for introduction of modern farming methods and introduction of new crops that can bring better financial returns for the villagers. He announced a drip irrigation system for 600 acres of agricultural land owned by the villagers and said the necessary equipment for this would be provided by government soon.
“You have over the years formed committees to undertake various tasks. But much more can be done,” he said and suggested that they visit Ankapur, another model village in Nizamabad district, to learn about better farming methods. The CM said the district collector would organize two buses – one for men and another for women – to undertake the visit to Ankapur. As part of the study tour, they will also be taken to Pragathi Resorts which is mosquito free by just raising certain varieties of plants.Chandrasekhar Rao’s speech which was laced with sharp wit and humour kept the villagers enthralled. He evoked loud laughter when he said mosquitoes make no difference between a chief minister and common man. He went on to advise them to make their village mosquito free. “I will ensure that the resorts management will supply you with the plants you need,’ he said.He promised a two-bedroom house for every homeless family, an English medium residential school and funds to develop a graveyard and a garbage dump in the village. He laid the foundation stone for additional classrooms in the village school and planted a sapling as part of Harita Haram programme.Later participating at a joint grama sabha of Rampuram and Medipalli villages in Nallabelli mandal, Chandrasekhar Rao felicitated Gorukanti Surender Rao who runs the Yashoda Hospitals for donating Rs 1 crore for Medipalli’s development. Chandrasekhar Rao said it was admirable that Surender Rao made such a significant donation for the development of his village. “He also gave his house here for the village to use. If people join the Grama Jyoti like he has, then the programme will get a huge boost,” he said.He also announced a Rs 10 crore grant from the government to kick start the village development and encourage participation of all villagers in development activities. “If all the 4000 residents of Medipalli join hands, there is no force that can stop them from changing their own lives,” he said.
